    You need a square finished USB cable. The square plug goes in the keyboard, the flat side goes into your PC’s USB port. This cable relays MIDI in rank between your keyboard and computer.

    If you don’t have the software, you’ll have to download a USB/MIDI driver from Yamaha. Directions here:

    To use your keyboard as an input device for software synths, you can use a synth package like “Reason” from, or get a whole recording package such as Sony’s Acid, ProTools, Ableton Live, or others. They are pricy though. Google around for free demos you can download. I like Reason, it has infinite possibilites for music and signal production.
