It may be a matter of which airline you travel. Call the two or three that you assume you could fly and ask them.
How long is it? Maybe you could check it through in its case.

I tried to do the same thing w/my Roland keyboard 2 summers ago b/c I wanted to take it w/me on vacation to Europe. I called ahead of time to see if I could bring it onboard w/me b/c I wanted to do the same thing that you want to do. Unfortunately, they said that it was too big to bring onboard, thus I couldn’t place it overhead. Guitars are different b/c their dimensions are smaller (my friend was allowed to bring his guitar onboard that same summer b/c it was small enough). The best thing I suggest (& the airline told me this too) is to go & buy a hardcase for your keyboard so you can put it underneath. I know it’s really scary, believe me I didn’t want to do it, but unfortunately there’s no other way, & you definitely don’t want to put it underneath w/a soft case! Good luck!

I took my HS Band to Europe for a music festival and we took a keyboard. You’ll have to check it like it was a piece of luggage or pay to have it shipped seperately. I would recommend checking into Anvil Cases. They are rated very high for being protected on airline flights. anvilcase.com

generally, no, you won’t be able to take it as carry on. You’ll need a very sturdy case, either an Anvil or a Calton, and their pretty expensive.
